NFPA 1020 is the current consolidated professional-qualification standard covering fire and emergency services instructors, fire officers, and EMS officers. California State Fire Training delivery follows the curriculum, prerequisites, certification requirements, and adopted standard identified for each current SFT course.

Programs address instructional planning, delivery, evaluation, ethics, audiovisual support, skills evaluation, and program management. Course selection is based on the role the student is preparing to perform.

Available program areas

Instructor 1

Instructional methodology, lesson preparation, communication, delivery, testing, records, and the initial instructor pathway.

Instructor 2 and 3

Course development, evaluation, supervision, program management, and administrative responsibilities.

Ethics and evaluation

Ethical Leadership in the Classroom, Techniques of Evaluation, and practical assessment methods.

Skills and lead evaluator

Evaluator preparation for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor and Fire Fighter skills processes.

Delivery

Direct instruction in the operating environment.

Programs can be delivered for a host agency, academy, or regional group. Materials and examples are adapted to the organization’s curriculum, documentation system, student population, and applicable SFT or CSTI requirements.

Programs are personally led and delivered by Brent Dubois. Subcontracted instructors are not used.
